your Child at Smart Cookies?

We know that choosing the right care for your child is a very important decision and if you are looking for childcare for the first time it can be a bit daunting.  Research shows that the experiences children have in the very early years have a huge effect on their development, so you want the best start possible.  

We believe that  Smart Cookies offers this and that the best thing you can do is visit us and see if Smart Cookies impresses you and ‘feels’ right for your child. We will show you round and answer any questions you may have.

We also recommend that  you  ‘shop around’ as we are confident you will make the right decision for your family..

Registering your Child

If you decide that Smart Cookies is the right nursery for you and your child, simply complete the forms in the Registration Pack and return them to the nursery. Your child’s place will be confirmed (subject to availability) once the paperwork has been received.

Settling In Sessions

We make every effort to make your child's start at Smart Cookies as easy as possible. We normally suggest that you start settling sessions two weeks before your intended start date but this may vary depending on your availability and the information you have given us about your child.

Staff begin to develop a relationship with your child from their first visit. They help your child to settle into their new room, become familiar with the nursery routine and support them to engage in activities.

Staff are happy to support and guide you through the process, answering any questions you may have.

The following steps are always adapted to the individual child so additional settling in sessions are available as required. 

NB. All settling in sessions are free.

Step 1

The child visits their room with parents/carer for part of a session and will choose a picture for their peg/locker. Once the child is settled, the parent /carer leaves the room for a short time.

Step 2

The child visits their room with parents/carer for part of a session. The parent /carer leaves for part of this time -the length of time is determined by how the child responded to being left on the previous visit, possibly around one and a half hours.

Step 2 is repeated, with the time the child is without parent/carer being increased as suits the child.

The child attends a their first nursery session on their own.

You are encouraged to phone the nursery at any time during your child’s settling in visits or regular sessions to see how they are.
